From this weekend's New York Comic-Con, from the DC Universe panel, here is this little tidbit:
[James] Robinson just let slip he'll be doing something with Hawkman because Sattler told him Dan DiDio told everyone last night. He didn't.
Well, Robinson's faux pas is our gain! If he is doing something with Hawkman I assume it is going to be in Justice League of America, which is his playground these days. Which makes sense considering the historical connection with the League.
I am assuming (speculating, really) that anything Robinson does with Hawkman will be after Brightest Day wraps. But it's anyone's guess, really!

Please, please, please let this be more than just a rumor!!
When I interviewed him for the Hawkman Companion, James was so passionate about what he thought a Hawkman comic could and should be.
It certainly seems that way to me. The context made it sound like Robinson was making an announcement of something which he thought he could talk about.
I still think it will be in the pages of JLoA, though, considering that's pretty much the only thing Robinson is doing right now, right?
I wonder about this one. Rumor is that each major character that survives Brightest Day will get their own ongoing series. While I doubt EVERY character will, it seems likely that Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, and Firestorm would.
Robinson started the last run of Hawkman. I also seem to recall hearing previously that Robinson originally approached DC about writing a Hawkman series, but was turned down. That's where Starman came into existance instead. Not 100% sure that's true, but that's what I recall.
I'd be interested to read a Robinson Hawkman series.

Well, Starman was launched out of Zero Hour, and Hawkman v.3 was still going strong at that point, so I don't know whether that works out timeline-wise or not. Not that it really matters, I'd like to see Robinson handle a Hawkman series. I have really began to dig his work since reading Cry For Justice and I think the earnest way in which he approaches superheroics would be a solid fit for Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
Well, Robinson wrote the first 10 issues of the most recent Hawkman volume. Those were really good!
I think Robinson would bring a lot of the legacy aspect to Hawkman, which would be nice as long as they didn't get bogged down in continuity.

I think you misunderstand, Shag -- I wouldn't mind at all if Robinson was tapped to handle a Hawkman book after Brightest Day. I just don't think the Hawkman/Starman story works from a timeframe standpoint.
The first year of Hawkman v.4 had some great adventure stories in there, and are some of the best modern Hawkman tales.
I followed you. I just went off on a tangent. :)
I'll have to look up those Starman issues. I think Robinson explained it in a letters page. My memory was that he wanted to write a Hawkman comic, basically like how Starman turned out. Really heavy into the legacy of Hawkman with lots of history on the city. However, at that time DC was trying to ignore Hawkman's legacy. They also already had a Hawkman book. So DC said no, but agreed to Starman instead since there wasn't a modern day incarnation of the character they were trying popularize.
Now that's just how I remember it. Given that I'm old and senile, I'm probably wrong. :)
